Fair criticism, but we should point out we’re not the ones making that strap. Nearly every boat company out there is using the same tie-down style, and they’ve been essentially unchanged for over two decades. So while we’d love to claim responsibility for this masterpiece of mechanical advantage, that one isn’t ours.
The Velcro keeper does in fact wrap all the way around and works well as a keeper when the strap is secured properly. That said, we’ve always felt there are better tie-down options, which is why we sell BoatBuckles. We also recommend tying a knot in the end, or doing a reverse half hitch around the buckle before wrapping the Velcro, for added peace of mind.
So yes, there are better systems out there. That’s why we offer them.
